this one's too hard

after bath

This morning I woke up in pain. Somehow I made it to the bathroom, but then decided it best if I just go back to bed. That was probably not the brightest idea.

The pain got worse and I found myself in a position where I couldn't move. Trying to change positions made me cringe in pain. I let out a few yelps and moans, but they went entirely unnoticed by B, who was downstairs.

For a few moments I felt like Goldilocks. This bed is too hard. And too old. And has no support. It is 25 years old and was probably a 'real deal' at the time it was purchased.

B finally came up to check on me, and I explained my plight, while lying face down moaning about how much pain I was in. He actually started laughing at me! He said that the expression on my face (one of agonizing pain) was funny. He was lucky I couldn't move.

I am still not sure how, but I made it out of bed. I knew that staying there was not the right thing to do. It wasn't helping the pain. I fear never leaving it again.

B brought me an Excedrin and then jumped into the shower. I decided to try and brush my teeth. We have been using an Ultreo Toothbrush for about a month now. It uses ultrasound to clean your teeth. Just lifting my arm was painful. I managed to make it through the two minutes and three 'next level' signals somehow.

I am still not sure how I got undressed given that I could not lift my arms above my head. Somehow I did, and managed to take a shower. This helped a lot. Of course I am sure the Excedrin was kicking in too.

Once out of the shower, I went downstairs. The staircase was a bit daunting, but I made it. I decided I should eat something given that I had just popped an aspirin on an empty stomach. Didn't want to add ulcer to my list of problems.

We had decided that I would go into Pasadena today as I had some shopping I needed to do. The shower, the pain killers, and food seemed to have me mobile again. I still was aware that I had a back, but at least could sit and stand and put my hands in the air.

On the way in, B got a text message that his coworker was stuck on I-5. There had been a chemical spill, causing the road to be closed. He informed B he wasn't going to make it in to the office today after all. We were about a third of the way there, so figured we would just continue.

At lunch, we picked out some greeting cards and then headed to Il Fornigno. They have a little cafe there were you can get lunch pretty quickly. The sandwiches are pre-made, but you can get them to pop them on to the panini press to heat them up.

I ordered an iced tea, and in addition to our sandwiches, we decided to share a cookie. It was a sticky lace cookie with chocolate filling. When I went to break the cookie in half, I didn't realize it would be so tough, and thusly knocked over my iced tea. My cup landed upside down. It was plastic. I felt stupid. Thankfully there wasn't much left in my cup, but it did make a bit of a mess on the floor. Once more I felt like Goldilocks. All that's left to do is break a chair.
