and so it goes

drained of color

Just some random thoughts about today:

  • While I could probably live on turkey sandwiches for a week, B could not. So tonight we went out for Thai food.

  • I think the dishes are multiplying - like bunnies!

  • We are going to try eating oatmeal for breakfast until Christmas. Then bacon and eggs!

  • It sprinkled today.

  • The plan is to go to Disneyland tomorrow! Can't wait to see Small World decked out!!!

random list of eight

rainbow castle

I have a terrible headache today, so think I will just be random in eight:

  1. Amused that Oxford English Dictionary named unfriend the word of the year. Not as amused that someone recently did, although took it back rather quickly.

  2. I am looking forward to getting my hands on a copy the new Starbucks CD. You have to spend $15. Maybe buy some people in line a drink?

  3. I really need a password book. I have too many accounts online. I just got myself locked out. Darn! Hate when that happens. I don't like calling customer service and admitting I am lame.

  4. Still working on the Halloween photos from Disneyland. Hopefully before Christmas!

  5. Tomorrow is Mickey Mouse's birthday! He's 82.

  6. B is also taking the car into the shop tomorrow - hopefully they have the right parts this time.

  7. Who knew I could get excited about leeks? They have made my broccoli soup even better.

  8. When I was 3, I tried to flush my shoe down the loo, and backed up the plumbing in the entire building.

Told you they would be random! Oh, headache go away now. Ow!

state of me

very pink

I think I am slowly withdrawing. And yet I see small steps of progress. For example, today I got up (without prodding) at a decent hour, and made breakfast before B went off to work.

I feel like I have nothing to say. Part of that, I am sure, is because I am so isolated.

I finished all the laundry today. But I still feel like I got nothing done.

I was proud of myself for not freaking out when I realized that the bottom of the new quiche pan was missing, but felt like something was wrong with me. How does something like this not come home from the store?

I want to read and write, but haven't made any progress on those fronts. I did do my morning pages (in the morning even).

I feel guilty. And lonely. And mostly just very lost.

a few things about today

spikes

*We got a turkey. Just one. The 2-for-1 turkeys were all over 22 pounds.

*Also got laundry detergent. Target is on way to the grocery store.

*Had first eggnog latte of the season.

*I still need to clean the oven (and write post about gift ideas). Haven't forgotten either.

*Learned that people who don't watch TV are happier people.

*Garnet Hill is having a Thanksgiving sale through December 1 on some great gift ideas.

*I think I am ready to change my gmail wallpaper already.

*Tomorrow I plan to make cranberry sauce.

some randomness

not ready

Tonight I am baking a pumpkin pie completely from scratch. I roasted the pumpkin and pureed it. I also make the crust.

Today we went to Claremont so B could got his shaggy hair cut. He told the woman who cut his hair that he was going on a job interview. Apparently he always says this to a new hairdresser (or one he hasn't seen in a while). I was a bit surprised when she said, "Good luck - hope you get the job!"

When we walked outside, I asked B if he had something to tell me. Had he been pretending to the office in the morning, but instead going to his coworker's house to play Guitar Hero? He explained his little trick to get a better hair cut.

On the way back we stopped at Fresh & Easy. One of the things I love is that if you spend $20, you can get a coupon for $5 off your purchase. They also will let you try any product in the store.

B found frozen shu mei. He wasn't sure about them, since they didn't have pork, then remembered what he had heard. So he walked over to the samples area, and asked if he could try them. With a smile, the woman said sure. He just needed to stick around for a bit while she heated them in the microwave.

They weren't bad, but not what he was expecting. We ended up not getting them. To be fair, we had just have what had have been called the best dumplings in the San Gabriel Valley last night, so I am not sure what would have lived up to that.

We had been back at the house for a bit when we had two different people come to the door almost back to back. It was like one was waiting in the bushes until the left. The first wanted to clean the carpets at no charge. I sent him away. The second was collecting for this charity that feeds the hungry by painting house numbers on curbs. B gave her a check for the average donation - $13.

Okay pie is ready.

a few random tidbits

they look like apples

{one}: Visited our favorite chocolate cafe today. It is hard not to be happy there. We shared a chocolate cupcake that had whipped cream frosting and little pieces of candied orange on top.

{two}: Wore my cute shoes today. My feet are still mad about it.

{three}: B has been on the hunt for a certain game for his wii. We have visited several Targets, Best Buys, and Toys R Us stores without any luck. Then last night we end up at a Best Buy but there is major construction and the entrance I drove in through doesn't allow me to get to the Best Buy parking lot. Even better at the end of the drive I can only make a right turn, when I need to make a left. I made B get out of the car and walk. Good thing too. I got to the next intersection and couldn't make a u-turn and ended up making three left turns. Thankfully B emerged from the Best Buy with his game.

{four}: I am in pursuit of a 2008 moleskin calendar. I am thinking of going to the daily format, as the weekly format doesn't always have enough room. Now if only I could find one.

{five}: I got on line for the first time today at about 9:15pm.

{six}: I also had a sandwichtm today. That deli has been in business 80 years. They know how to make a sandwich.

{seven}: And for dinner I had a Western Turkey Burger from Barney's. Oh, so good. B got the Turkey Pesto Burger which also was good. We split a basket of onion rings and I got an iced tea (instead of a rootbeer float).

{eight}: I the person you loved most in the world said that spending the holidays with his family rated a '6 or 7' (out of 10), would you just grin and bear it? I used to be able to hold my breath under water for a fairly long time.

seven random things (about me)

it's red cup time again

{one} The last book I read was Driving with Dead People. It made me cry. I can't entirely tell you why.

{two} For dinner tonight, I made pesto. My favorite thing is that I found frozen chopped basil in little cubes (at Trader Joes). It makes things very simple.

{three} Lately, I don't think I have been drinking enough water.

{four} I am left handed. My mother, father, and sister are right-handed.

{five} It is still hard to believe I once lived in the heart of downtown Chicago. Part of me really misses it.

{six} I feel so very lost.

{seven} I don't drink coffee. I prefer tea.
